Bio Daniel Arite is a composer, guitarist, visual artist, and sound artist whose works for live performance and electronic media employ various processes of layering sound. A professional musician since the 1980’s, his repertoire ranges from new music to jazz to bluegrass. Daniel composes for solo guitar, strings, clarinet, piano, banjo, percussion, and various ensembles. His works have been featured in venues around the United States and broadcast on radio and public television. He has also distinguished himself as a creative collaborator. For over 20 years he has been exploring the interaction of music and word with a wide range of artists working with poetry, experimental texts, voice, and percussion. He composes and performs with The Bosch Institute, collaborating with his fantastic wife poet/orator Thandiwe Shiphrah. His work has been recognized with grants from the Puffin Foundation, Meet the Composer, Tennessee Arts Commission, and a scholarship from the Coca-Cola Foundation.
